A message of optimism regarding the future of global shipping was delivered by the Secretary General of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), Thomas Kazakos, during his keynote address at the XINDE MARINE NEWS Forum, held on the sidelines of the Posidonia exhibition.
Under the theme “Cooperation and Coexistence: The Long-Term Outlook for Shipping,” Kazakos emphasized that the shipping industry has repeatedly demonstrated its resilience in the face of crises and challenges. He noted that maintaining close cooperation between governments, international organizations, and the maritime industry is a fundamental prerequisite for the sector’s sustainable development.
He placed particular emphasis on the role of seafarers, stressing that their safety, welfare, and proper training must remain at the core of industry policy priorities.
At the same time, he highlighted the importance of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the need to safeguard freedom of navigation on a global scale.
