TERNA has further strengthened its presence in Romania following the signing in Bucharest of the contract for the Filiași–Igiroasa (Lot 2) railway project.

The contract was signed between Romania’s National Railway Company (CFR) and the TrackWorks consortium, in which GEK TERNA Group’s construction arm, TERNA, holds a 74% stake, alongside Alstom Romania.

The project has a budget of 380 million euros.

Project scope

Lot 2 covers the design and full rehabilitation of the approximately 44-km railway section between Filiași and Igiroasa, as part of the broader upgrade of the Craiova–Drobeta Turnu Severin–Caransebeș railway line.

At the end of March, the same consortium signed the contract for Lot 1, covering the Craiova–Filiași section, with a budget of 410 million euros, in which TERNA holds a 69% stake.

Together, the two lots comprise the 83-km Craiova–Igiroasa railway corridor, for which TERNA has been awarded the full design and reconstruction works.

The four-year project aims to increase operating speeds to 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains, while enabling the operation of freight trains of up to 740 metres in length.
