The importance of building knowledge through experiential classroom activities in maritime training was highlighted by the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) Academy, following a recent survey in which 44% of respondents said they learn more effectively through this approach.
Based on this finding, the ICS Academy is placing greater emphasis on more interactive and practical digital learning activities, enabling seafarers to learn proactively and apply their knowledge in realistic scenarios. Training modules include, among others, 3D engine models, onboard safety checklist completion, and other interactive applications that enhance understanding and operational readiness.
The ICS Academy stressed that digital training should not be limited to theory, but should actively support decision-making and the safe day-to-day operations of ship crews.
