TEN Ltd., the tanker operator controlled by Dr. Nikolas Tsakos, has announced the delivery and naming of the DP2 Suezmax shuttle tanker Anfield DP, further expanding its presence in the specialized shuttle tanker market.
The vessel was delivered by Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea and is the third of a total of 12 DP2 shuttle tankers under construction for the company.
Following delivery, Anfield DP will begin a 10-year charter with a major U.S. oil company, with extension options that could keep the vessel employed for up to 20 years from its delivery date.
The naming ceremony was attended by officials from Greece, South Korea and the United States, including U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle.
Shuttle tanker fleet expands
With the addition of Anfield DP, TEN now operates seven shuttle tankers on long-term charters and has a further nine vessels under construction.
Once the newbuilding program is completed, the company’s shuttle tanker fleet will total 16 vessels, making TEN one of the world’s largest owners in the segment.
The expansion marks the second phase of TEN’s growth strategy in Brazil’s offshore market, where the company has been active since 2012.
Strategy focused on specialized tonnage
TEN President and Chief Operating Officer George Saroglou said the company remains committed to its strategy of selling first-generation tankers at attractive valuations and replacing them with high-specification specialized vessels backed by long-term charter contracts.
