Greek technology company KIEFER has released Sophea-Titan-1, a 27-billion-parameter multimodal artificial intelligence model tailored for the Greek language that can be deployed on infrastructure owned and managed by the organizations using it.
The open-weight release provides businesses, public sector organizations, researchers and developers with a new foundation for building Greek-language AI applications without relying exclusively on external APIs from proprietary AI models.
Based on a 27B architecture, Sophea-Titan-1 combines text and image processing with enhanced Greek-language capabilities while maintaining strong English-language performance. The model also supports both formal and informal communication styles and is designed to provide a consistent assistant identity.
The launch expands Greece’s growing ecosystem of open-weight AI models, joining initiatives such as Meltemi and Llama-Krikri.
KIEFER said the model addresses the underrepresentation of the Greek language in the large datasets used to train most foundation models through supervised fine-tuning on a modern, dense multimodal architecture. It is designed for general-purpose conversations in Greek, knowledge-based question answering, bilingual workflows, image and document understanding, and applications requiring controlled communication styles.
To achieve optimal Greek-language performance, the company recommends running the model in non-thinking mode. Deployment documentation includes examples for vLLM, Transformers and endpoints compatible with the OpenAI API.
According to KIEFER, the release supports a broader AI objective by enabling organizations to determine where their models are deployed, where sensitive data is processed and how AI capabilities are integrated into existing IT infrastructure.
For Greek businesses and public institutions, self-hosted AI can reduce dependence on external platforms, strengthen control over data location and processing, and provide greater flexibility for customization. The company said the approach could also help establish a domestic AI technology value chain linking computing infrastructure, foundation models, enterprise applications and specialized Greek-language datasets.
Sophea-Titan-1 is available through KIEFER’s repository on Hugging Face, together with installation instructions and links to its quantized versions.
