Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN) has placed an order for a second liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier at Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea, with scheduled delivery in the first quarter of 2029.
Following the new investment, the company’s shipbuilding programme now totals 20 vessels. The first of these, the DP2 shuttle tanker Anfield DP, is scheduled for delivery at the end of July 2026 and will be employed under a minimum 10-year charter with a major US oil company, which could be extended to up to 20 years through optional extensions.
“We are particularly pleased to further strengthen our presence in the continuously evolving LNG sector, a market in which we have been active since 2007. The rising global energy demand, driven by geopolitical developments, has increased the need for LNG as an alternative energy source,” said George Saroglou, chairman and COO of TEN.
TEN is marking 33 years as a listed company this year, including 24 years on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). It is one of the world’s first and most established publicly listed shipping companies.
The company’s diversified energy transportation fleet currently comprises 83 vessels, with a total carrying capacity of over 11 million deadweight tons (dwt).
