Intracom Defence (IDE) has launched a cooperation with MBDA Deutschland GmbH that could pave the way for the establishment of a new defence electronics production facility within the next two years, according to information from naftemporiki.gr.
IDE has signed a contract with MBDA Deutschland for the development and serial production of the data-link solution for the DEFENDAIR missile, formerly known as the Small Anti-Drone Missile (SADM). The agreement marks the first collaboration between the two companies.
Under the contract, IDE will undertake the development of the system, the production of prototypes, integration support across multiple platforms and the creation of a production line for the future serial manufacture of the integrated communications system. The solution will cover both the ground segment and the missile, fully meeting DEFENDAIR’s operational requirements.
The programme strengthens IDE’s position within Europe’s rapidly evolving counter-unmanned aerial systems (Counter-UAS) ecosystem and supports broader European initiatives aimed at enhancing integrated, mobile, scalable and cost-effective air-defence capabilities against emerging drone threats.
“The contract with MBDA Deutschland and its strategic importance represent a significant milestone for IDE and further confirm our position as a reliable European partner and provider of advanced electronics and communications technologies,” said Efstathios Karagiannis, the company’s chief commercial officer.
Defense electronics expertise
Through the DEFENDAIR programme, IDE is contributing to the enhancement of European Counter-UAS and integrated air-defence capabilities by providing high-performance communications solutions tailored to modern operational requirements, he added.
The programme builds on IDE’s established missile communications technologies and long-standing expertise in advanced defence electronics and tactical communications systems. The company develops products in missile electronics, IP tactical communications, C4I systems, surveillance, hybrid power systems and unmanned systems.
The MBDA programme manager said IDE’s expertise and commitment were key to meeting the programme’s objectives and the demanding performance requirements set for the DEFENDAIR initiative.
IDE has also doubled its newly signed international defence contracts as part of its export-focused strategy. The company recently participated in the Eurosatory 2026 international defence and security exhibition, where it presented its new Hybrid Energy and Climate Control System (HECCS), designed for air-defence and missile-defence applications.
The company is also expanding its international presence in tactical communications systems following the selection of its WiSPRevo CIS for the Leopard 2A8 main battle tanks of Lithuania’s defence ministry, as well as successful field trials conducted by Finland’s defence ministry under Arctic conditions and in high-noise military vehicles.
