Greek contractors’ associations have called for an urgent meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, warning that the latest sharp increases in construction material prices are threatening the smooth execution of public infrastructure projects.
In a letter addressed to Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis and Deputy Ministers Dimitris Markopoulos and Athanasios Petralias, the associations said the market is facing severe strain and called for immediate government intervention.
According to the associations, prices of materials used in public works have risen by between 20% and 35% since early March, with fuel costs recording the steepest increases. They said the rapid escalation over the past few months has significantly raised the cost of executing public contracts.
