The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Greece’s CrediaBank have joined forces to support investment in the country’s security and defence sectors through a 100 million euro financing agreement.
The EIB signed the first 50 million euro tranche of the facility, marking the start of its partnership with CrediaBank.
Under the agreement, CrediaBank will become the first non-systemic bank in Europe and the second Greek lender to participate in the EIB’s Security and Defence programme.
Combined with the bank’s own contribution and the expected leverage effect, the initiative is expected to mobilise up to 200 million euros in financing for final beneficiaries.
The funding will be channelled through CrediaBank to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies across Greece, with a particular focus on businesses operating in or investing in the security and defence sectors, in line with the EIB’s eligibility criteria.
The programme is designed to improve access to long-term financing for both investment projects and working capital, helping companies strengthen their competitiveness, innovation and resilience.
It is also expected to support strategic investments while contributing to the sustainable growth and expansion of Greece’s productive economy.
