Performance Shipping Inc. (PSHG), owned by Aliki Paliou, has entered into a sale and leaseback agreement for a newbuilding LR1 tanker, enhancing its financial flexibility.
The vessel, to be named M/T P. San Francisco, is currently under construction at Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding and is expected to be delivered in early 2027.
The agreement amounts to 37.8 million dollars and provides for a 10-year bareboat charter, with a daily hire rate of 5,451 dollars and a payment of approximately 18.1 million dollars at the end of the term. At the same time, the company retains a purchase option for the vessel after two years.
According to CEO Andreas Michalopoulos, the financing covers 70% of the vessel’s value and ensures balanced cash flows, while the already secured charter agreement with Mercuria enhances revenue visibility.
