Challenges and prospects for Greek shipping, cruise, and port sectors were outlined by Nikos Mavrikos, President of the Panhellenic Association of Ship Suppliers and Exporters, during an event held aboard the cruise ship Celestyal Journey, as part of the “Sea Days 2026” initiative, in cooperation with the University of the Aegean and ISALOS.NET.

Mavrikos praised Celestyal’s support for ship suppliers and its contribution to the institution of the event. He also highlighted the leading role of Greek shipping at both European and international level, referring to the European Commission’s new strategic initiatives for ports and maritime transport.

Regulatory pressures and rising costs

He also focused on the impact of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), the cruise passenger levy, rising operating costs, and new regulatory requirements on the sustainability of ferry and cruise operations.

Developments in maritime-related industries

Attention was also focused on developments in ship supply services, shipbuilding, and the yachting sector, with emphasis on the broader structural challenges facing maritime-related industries.
