Greece’s defence industry has emerged as a key focus of investment interest for the Toronto Business Development Centre (TBDC).

This marks the second time the Canadian business accelerator has targeted the Greek business community, this time concentrating on the strategically important defence and security sector, as well as dual-use technologies.

As part of this initiative, Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development and the province’s minister responsible for defence procurement, Victor A. Fedeli, recently visited Greece, accompanied by TBDC President Vikram Khurana and the centre’s Head of European Development, George Stamatakos.

The delegation held meetings with Greek government officials, executives from defence companies, established technology firms, Eurobank’s leadership and startup founders.

Companies and organizations included on the Canadian delegation’s agenda were EFA Group, METLEN, Intracom Telecom, Quest Group, Uni Systems, HCDI (Hellenic Center for Defence Innovation), Endeavor Greece, Elevate Greece, Starttech Ventures, Keyvote, Optechain, SaMMY PC and Savesize.

Speaking to Naftemporiki, Fedeli said TBDC is one of Canada’s leading business accelerators, operating in Toronto for 35 years as a non-profit organization supported by the governments of Canada, Ontario and the City of Toronto.

“Our visit is focused on Greek companies operating in the defence and information technology sectors. Our objective is to support the expansion of Greek defence companies into Ontario and the broader North American market,” Fedeli said.

He added that Greece represents an important partner for Ontario, offering mutual benefits across a range of strategic industries, including advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defence and technology.

“Against a backdrop of unprecedented global economic uncertainty, it is more important than ever for Ontario to strengthen its trade relationships with trusted partners in Europe such as Greece,” Fedeli said.

“Bilateral trade between Ontario and Greece has increased by nearly 49% since 2018, and we are seeking to build on this strong momentum and unlock new opportunities for mutual growth, trade and long-term prosperity.”
