GENESIS Pharma is expanding its partnership with Alnylam Pharmaceuticals by adding four Nordic markets — Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden — to the 13 Southeast European markets already covered by the collaboration.

Under the expanded agreement, GENESIS Pharma will be responsible for the commercialisation of a portfolio of RNA interference (RNAi) therapies for severe forms of cardiomyopathy and rare genetic diseases across the enlarged geographic region. RNAi is a natural cellular gene-silencing process and is considered one of the most promising and rapidly evolving fields in biology and drug development. Its discovery has been described as “a major scientific breakthrough that occurs roughly once every decade” and was recognised with the 2006 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

The collaboration between the two companies began in 2019 in Southeast Europe and has gradually expanded to include a broader portfolio of therapies and additional markets. It currently covers Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Malta and Kosovo. According to Constantinos Evripides, the expansion into the Nordic countries marks an important milestone and reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its European footprint by leveraging its expertise and long-standing commitment to biotechnology.
