Alpha Bank completes a century of uninterrupted presence on the Athens Stock Exchange, making it the longest-running private bank in the Greek capital market.
The anniversary was celebrated with a special event at the Athens Stock Exchange, in the presence of representatives of the State, the business and investment community, as well as executives of the Bank.
The 100th anniversary celebration was sealed with the opening ceremony of the ATHEX session at the Athens Stock Exchange building, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Kostis Hatzidakis, Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis, CEO of HELEX Yiannos Kontopoulos, CEO of Alpha Bank Group Vassilios Psaltis, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank Dimitris Tsitsiragos, Chairperson of the Capital Market Commission Vasiliki Lazarakou and Deputy Governor of the Bank of Greece Christina Papakonstantinou.
Alpha Bank CEO Vasilis Psaltis, after the customary ringing of the bell as an official guest, stated: “The completion of 100 years of continuous presence of Alpha Bank on the Athens Stock Exchange is a milestone of profound institutional significance.
From 1925 to the present, the Bank has maintained an uninterrupted relationship with the Greek capital market, accompanying the significant developments of the economy and consolidating, over time, the relationship of trust with the investment community.
Let us not forget that Alpha Bank is the only listed company that continuously distributed dividends from 1948 to 2008.
This anniversary, however, is not only about the past. It is primarily about the future. It finds Alpha Bank in a period of strength, transformation and increased extroversion, with a clear strategic orientation and a strengthened international presence.
Our strategic partnership with UniCredit places Alpha Bank more dynamically on the European banking map, creating new opportunities for cross-border collaborations, investments and support for Greek entrepreneurship.
At the same time, recent developments concerning the Athens Stock Exchange and its position in the broader European stock exchange ecosystem highlight a new perspective for the Greek capital market that enhances the international visibility and Greece’s investment attractiveness, creating opportunities for businesses, investors and, most importantly, for the real economy.
In this environment, Alpha Bank continues to view the Athens Stock Exchange, not simply as a trading venue, but as an institution of growth, transparency and long-term value.
With strong foundations, a European orientation and faith in the potential of the Greek economy, we are entering our new centenary, ready to actively contribute to shaping the next chapter of growth, supporting progress in life and entrepreneurship for a better tomorrow.”
