A new path in European transnational co-productions in the Defense sector for Europe’s defense equipment is opened for Metlen by the new agreement with KNDS Deutschland, for the production of 200 parts for the Leopard 2A8.
M Technologies, which represents METLEN’s defense sector, will undertake this construction at the Defense Hub in Volos until 2031. However, beyond this specific agreement, METLEN and KNDS Deutschland are in advanced negotiations to deepen cooperation in other types of defense systems, strengthening Europe’s strategic autonomy and contributing to the creation of highly specialized jobs in Greece and the development of innovative technologies.
Upgrading production units
According to the management of METLEN, the agreement marks a new milestone in the long-term cooperation between the two parties, which is based on a relationship of trust that has been in place for over 23 years. The LEOPARD 2A8 is the most advanced main battle tank of the KNDS and one of the most advanced in the world. The undertaking of the production of a large quantity of its parts by M Technologies certifies the company’s capability and technological proficiency and at the same time gives it a significant competitive advantage for its presence in the European defense industry sector in the long term.
To this end, METLEN, through M Technologies, is already proceeding with the upgrade of its production units in the Defense hub it has in Volos, with the aim of establishing itself as a key pillar of the European defense industry. At the same time, it intends to enhance the availability of advanced defense systems for the needs of many European countries, thus confirming the company’s medium-term plan, as announced at the Capital Markets Day that took place at the London Stock Exchange in April 2025.
The company’s investments in the Volos defense hub aim to contribute substantially to the defense autonomy of Greece and Europe, to the reindustrialization and development of critical technological sectors, to the strengthening of the defense autonomy of the country’s geopolitical position. It should be noted that the Greek company also holds a leading position in heavy and complex metal constructions with many years of experience and specialization in defense systems, and is recognized for its high-quality products at a pan-European level.
