The European Business Press (EBP) this past week presented the “European Manager of the Year 2016 Award” to Cristina Stenbeck, the principal owner, lead shareholder and board member of Kinnevik.

The award was presented during the EBP’s annual meeting in Stockholm.

The European Business Press counts 43 leading European business newspapers and magazines in 23 countries, among them publications such as the the Wall Street Journal Europe, Les Echos, Handelsblatt, Dagens Industri and Milano Finanza.

In 1991, the EBP began presenting the award to top European managers and companies based on a vote of EBP editors.

Among the recipients were profiles such as Ingvar Kamprad of Ikea, Bernd Pischetsrieder, the former CEO of BMW and Volkswagen, Wolfgang Mayrhuber, the chairman of Lufthansa, Luca di Montezemolo, the chairman of Ferrari, and Tom Enders, the CEO of Airbus.

Stenbeck was awarded this year’s prize for leading Kinnevik over the last 14 years in a “bold new direction while re-positioning the company for future growth and long term profitability in new lines of business”, a relevant press release read.

“I am pleased to receive such generous recognition from the illustrious European Business Press”, Stenbeck said.

”Being elected Manager of the Year 2016 is a great honor that I proudly accept on behalf of our 80,000 employees around the globe. Our extraordinary people continue to lead their businesses in their local markets by undergoing much of the same re-positioning that Kinnevik itself has driven from within over the last decade. They have inspired new customer experiences through continuous innovation of digital products and services using mobile technology.”
