Castor Maritime Inc, owned by Greek shipowner Petros Panagiotidis, said it has agreed to acquire a modern Kamsarmax dry bulk vessel as part of efforts to expand its fleet.
The company said a subsidiary had signed an agreement to purchase the eco-design, 2023-built vessel from an unaffiliated third party for 37.5 million dollars. Delivery is expected by the end of the current quarter, subject to customary closing conditions.
The acquisition will be funded through the company’s existing cash resources.
Upon completion of the transaction, Castor Maritime’s fleet will consist of 10 vessels with an aggregate carrying capacity of approximately 700,000 deadweight tonnes (dwt).
The company operates internationally in shipping, asset management and energy infrastructure and is also a major shareholder in MPC Münchmeyer Petersen Capital AG, which is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
