Nearly eight in 10 Greeks no longer have confidence in the United States under President Donald Trump, according to a large-scale survey conducted by the Pew Research Center across 36 countries.
The survey found that 78% of respondents in Greece believe Trump is not doing the right thing in international affairs. It also showed that 60% of Greeks hold an unfavourable view of the United States, compared with 37% who view the country positively.
Some 59% of Greek respondents said the U.S. government does not respect the freedoms of its citizens, up from 43% in 2021.
The Pew survey examined attitudes towards the United States, Trump and the role played by the country in global affairs.
Greece was broadly in line with international trends, with the survey indicating a sharp decline in confidence in the United States under Trump’s leadership across much of the world.
The research was conducted between Feb. 8 and May 13, 2026, among 42,151 respondents in 36 countries, including Greece, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, Israel, Turkey, the United Kingdom and others, as well as in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
According to the findings, an average of just 23% of respondents across all surveyed countries expressed confidence in Trump’s handling of world affairs. In many countries, confidence in the U.S. president has declined compared with the previous year.
Disapproval of Iran Policy
In each country surveyed, most or all interviews were conducted after the outbreak of military hostilities.
Across the 36 countries, an average of 74% of respondents disapproved of Trump’s handling of Iran. Israel was the only country where a clear majority, 73%, approved of his approach, while 51% in Kenya and Nigeria also expressed approval.
An average of only 22% approved of Trump’s handling of Venezuela, although views were somewhat more favourable in parts of Latin America, including neighbouring Colombia, where approval reached 46%.
Trump also received low ratings in Europe for his handling of both Greenland-related issues and the Russia-Ukraine war.
No country surveyed recorded majority approval for Trump’s handling of the conflict in Gaza. Approval stood at just 3% among Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, while Israelis were evenly divided, with 48% approving and 48% disapproving.
The Trump administration’s tariff policies were broadly unpopular across the countries surveyed.
Kenya was the only country where a majority of respondents, 55%, approved of Trump’s handling of trade tariffs.
