DryDel Shipping will continue investing in Japanese-built vessels, reaffirming a strategy that prioritizes long-term efficiency over lower upfront costs, Chief Executive Kostas Delaportas said.
Speaking to reporters, Delaportas said that although Japanese-built ships command a higher price than their Chinese counterparts, the premium is fully offset by superior fuel efficiency and stronger competitiveness in both the charter and second-hand markets.
DryDel recently ordered three additional bulk carriers, with one vessel to be built at Shin Kurushima Dockyard, one at Nihon Shipyard and one at Oshima Shipbuilding.
The latest contracts increase the company’s orderbook to 10 vessels, ranging from Handysize to Capesize bulk carriers, further expanding its investment programme.
At the same time, DryDel operates an active fleet of 13 vessels with an average age of just 2.2 years, underscoring its focus on maintaining a modern and fuel-efficient fleet.
