Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Vassilis Kikilias visited Chalkis Shipyards, where he toured the facilities, met with employees and held a meeting with Chalkis Shipyards Chief Executive Officer Ashraf Bayoumi, representatives of local authorities and regional bodies, as well as representatives of the shipyard’s management and workforce.

During the meeting, Kikilias was briefed on the company’s plans for further development, in combination with the planned new commercial port.

Kikilias described Chalkis Shipyards as a high-level shipbuilding facility, highlighting its significant contribution to the local economy and employment, as its operations directly or indirectly support 600 families.

“The combination of maritime professions, shipyards, energy and the development of commercial activity in our ports is a recipe for success that creates well-paid jobs for our children and the next generation,” the minister said.

Kikilias said there is significant room for further growth through the shipyard’s activities and the planned new commercial port.

“We are interested in the people who work here and we are exploring ways to provide them with even greater support. There is significant development potential in the region. This investment is also linked to the new port, which can provide additional growth momentum for the area and contribute to the commercial upgrading of Chalkis, through targeted interventions that will respect and complement the city’s unique character and beauty. All of this together represents the development vision we are designing for the next 25 years,” he said.
