The Floating Naval Museum Hellas Liberty has expressed its “sincere and warm gratitude” to COSCO Shipping for its ongoing and substantial support in preserving and promoting the historic vessel Hellas Liberty, which it described as a living symbol of maritime heritage.
In its announcement, the museum said COSCO Shipping plays a decisive role in ensuring the operational readiness and long-term sustainability of the ship, contributing to the preservation of an important chapter of global and Greek maritime history.
It noted that Hellas Liberty, one of the few remaining Liberty ships worldwide, serves as a living monument to the role these vessels played in global commercial shipping and post-World War II reconstruction. Its presence at the port of Piraeus reflects the shared commitment of public and private stakeholders to safeguarding and promoting maritime heritage.
Dimitris Sarikavazis, representing the Hellas Liberty Museum, said the contribution of COSCO Shipping goes beyond operational support and reflects a tangible commitment to preserving naval history and strengthening Piraeus as an international maritime hub. He added that cooperation between port authorities, shipping organisations and cultural institutions highlights the importance of preserving monuments of global maritime significance.
