Italgas’ 2026-2032 Strategic Plan envisages investments of 1 billion euros in Greece, with a focus on expanding and digitalising the country’s natural gas distribution network.
According to the announcement, the investments are expected to extend the Greek network by 2,700 kilometres, an increase of 200 km compared with the previous plan, and raise the number of connected customers from around 650,000 in 2025 to more than 1 million by 2032, 45,000 higher than previously projected.
At the same time, the rollout of smart gas meters is under way, with installations already reaching 5,000 connections across the country.
Total investments of 13 billion euros
Italgas’ 2026-2032 strategic plan provides for total investments of 13 billion euros, up 14.6% from the previous 2025-2031 plan, including:
– 8.3 billion euros for the development, digitalisation and repurposing of gas infrastructure in Italy;
– 2.4 billion euros for future gas distribution tenders;
– 1 billion euros for the development and expansion of the gas distribution network in Greece, in line with the previous plan;
– 800 million euros to strengthen the group’s presence in the water and energy efficiency sectors; and
– 500 million euros for mergers and acquisitions in the gas distribution sector.
Opening the presentation of the plan, Italgas Chairman Paolo Ciocca said the strategy consolidates a growth path that the group has pursued through a forward-looking and consistent approach.
“Geopolitical instability has highlighted that energy security depends on the resilience and widespread presence of network infrastructure,” Ciocca said.
“This is precisely what Italgas is committed to delivering: smart, digital and flexible networks capable of strengthening the competitiveness of the energy systems in which we operate while supporting the diversification of energy sources. An investment of this scale, amounting to 13 billion euros, is an act of responsibility towards the communities and territories we serve, as well as a long-term commitment to the countries in which we operate,” he added.
