Euroseas is expanding its newbuilding program with an order for two high-capacity 2,800 TEU containerships optimized for high-reefer cargo. The vessels will be constructed at Huanghai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in China.
The vessels will comply with EEDI Phase 3 and IMO NOx Tier III standards, featuring over 1,000 reefer plugs each. Deliveries are scheduled for June and August 2028. The acquisition cost is estimated at approximately 46.35 million dollars per vessel, to be financed through a combination of debt and equity. The contract also includes an option for up to four additional vessels of similar size.
Chairman and CEO Aristides Pittas stated: “We are pleased to announce the order of two modern 2,800 TEU high-reefer containerships. Given that the outlook for the global refrigerated container market remains highly positive and the availability of modern vessels with significant reefer capacity is limited, we believe this targeted diversification into the specialized high-reefer segment presents an attractive opportunity. These orders underscore the company’s commitment to growing and modernizing its fleet through targeted investments aimed at generating returns and maximizing long-term shareholder value.”
Euroseas currently operates an active fleet of 21 containerships with a total capacity of 61,144 TEU (15 feeders and 6 intermediate containerships), primarily employed on time charters. Total daily fleet revenues amount to 635,628 euros.
As part of its ongoing fleet renewal, the company has a newbuilding program in place for six additional vessels (four intermediate and two feeders), expected for delivery between 2027 and 2028. Upon completion, the total fleet will reach 27 vessels with a combined capacity of 84,676 TEU.
