Erasmus Shipinvest Group, a Chinese-owned shipping company headquartered in Vouliagmeni, Greece, has signed a new shipbuilding agreement with China Shipbuilding Trading Co. (CSTC) and CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding for the construction of two firm and two optional feeder containerships with a capacity of 1,900 TEUs.
The vessels will be based on Huangpu Wenchong’s Honghu design series and will measure 172 metres in length, 27.5 metres in beam, with a deadweight capacity of about 24,000 tonnes.
The deal marks the third agreement between the two sides in four months, following contracts signed in April and June for the construction of 1,800-TEU and 1,900-TEU feeder containerships.
With the latest order, the company, led by John Su, has secured contracts for six feeder containerships at the Chinese shipyard, with options for six additional vessels.
Overall, Erasmus Shipinvest’s newbuilding programme in China now comprises at least 18 vessels.
