Melina Travlou, president of the Union of Greek Shipowners, spoke about the need to strengthen equality and the visibility of women’s presence in the economy and society, during the Women Forward Summit organized by the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises at the Athens Concert Hall.
Participating in the Leadership Dialogue on “Institutions, Leadership and Equality in a Changing World”, Travlou stressed that women continue to face multiple demands in their personal and professional lives. As she said, women are often expected to simultaneously combine the roles of mother, wife and professional, while they are strictly judged on their success in each of them.
She underlined that there is no difference between men and women in terms of skills and professional value, but what is required is equal opportunities and equal trust.
Concluding, she stated that “both the power of shipping and the power of women must become more visible in modern times. Because when they become more visible, the value they offer both to the economy and to society will also become more visible.”
