TERNA wins 1 billion euro rail contracts in Romania

TERNA, the construction arm of GEK TERNA Group, was declared by Căile Ferate Române (CFR) as the final contractor for two railway projects with a total budget of 1 billion euros.

According to the relevant announcement by the group, TERNA was named the final bidder, in a joint venture with Alstom Romania, for the following two sections belonging to the Craiova-Drobeta Turnu

Severin-Caransebeș railway network in Romania:

Craiova–Filiași (Lot 1), budget 543.4 million euros

Filiași-Igiroasa (Lot 2), budget 449.2 million euros

These two sections make up the Craiova – Igiroasa railway line, with a total length of 83 kilometers, the design and full reconstruction of which is undertaken by TERNA.

TERNA participates in the consortium as the leader, with a percentage of 69% for Lot 1 and 74% for Lot 2, while the duration of the studies is set at 12 months and the construction duration at 36 months.

For the two projects, the TERNA-Alstom Romania consortium was named the provisional bidder in the summer of 2025.
