A Greek-owned tanker is carrying the first cargo of Venezuelan fuel to Europe in almost two years, marking a significant resurgence of flows from the Latin American country to European markets.
The cargo of 500,000 barrels of high-sulfur fuel oil was loaded in late January from Amuay, Venezuela, onto the aframax “Seawish” (114,000 dwt, built 2025), chartered by the Trafigura group and owned by the Greek Thenamaris, interests of Nikolas Martinos.
The tanker is expected to arrive in Rotterdam, Europe’s main fuel trading hub, in mid-February, based on PDVSA’s export schedule and Kpler data – and marks the first arrival of Venezuelan fuel oil in Europe since April 2024.
