Unemployment fell to its lowest rate in 18 years and the second lowest unemployment rate in Greece’s history in December 2025, according to the annual report of the ERGANI system.
Specifically, unemployment decreased to 7.5% last December, compared to 9.4% in December 2024, with the Ministry of Labor describing the data in the report as particularly positive for wage employment, confirming the steady upward trend in employment and wages.
According to the same data, the average wage in Greece has increased by approximately 20% in the last six years, exceeding 1,500 euros. At the same time, over 563,000 new jobs were created during the same period, while full-time employment increased to 78.5%. This means that 558,000 people have been added to the labor market with full-time employment contracts.
Meanwhile, 63.5% of employees, or almost 2 in 3, are paid an average salary of over 1,000 euros. This percentage was 53.7% in 2024 and just 36.3% in 2019, marking an overall increase of 75%.
