The second round of contacts between the IMF team in Athens and the Bank of Greece and other financial institutions was completed with great success, as sources told “N” that the meetings took place in an extremely positive atmosphere.
The first visit took place in Athens in late September and early October 2025, while, according to sources, another visit is expected to be held in the spring.
The same sources said that the contacts of the IMF team reflect a high degree of satisfaction both with the overall course of the domestic banking sector and with the quality of supervision and the institutional framework that has been established over the last years.
The main issues of the discussions were clearly the Greek banks (systemic and non-systemic), since the map has been changing recently with their acquisitions and movements, while emphasis was also placed on the progress of securitizations within the framework of the “Hercules” program, the quality of the assets of financial institutions, and the prospects for credit expansion.
