Greece’s out-of-court mechanism recorded significant growth and historically high performance in 2025.
More specifically, by the end of 2025, a total of 50,710 successful settlements were made, corresponding to initial debts of 15.7 billion euros.
As the Ministry of National Economy and Finance emphasized, this milestone in the arrangements is proof of the effectiveness of the mechanism, both for the financial relief of debtors and the support of vulnerable citizens, as well as for the reduction of private debt.
Significant boost after the improvement measures in April
The institutionalization of the latest improvement interventions implemented by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance gave a significant boost to the number of monthly adjustments.
These interventions led to a monthly approval rate of 80%, which reflects the immediate response of debtors and creditors to the new framework.
In December 2025, successful settlements reached 2,294, of which:
615 concern the middle class
233 concern financially vulnerable households
32 concern debtors with disabilities
In addition, a total of 404 debtors, by the end of the year, suspended scheduled auctions by taking advantage of the advance payment measure.
As the Ministry of National Economy and Finance pointed out, the 4th year of implementation of the tool ends with a spectacular increase compared to previous years: in 2022, the first year of operation, 2,706 settlements were made compared with 21,680 in 2025, up 700%.
