ICEYE has signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to provide the Swedish Armed Forces with a leading satellite-based SAR system.

This is a multi-year, multi-million-euro deal that will enhance Sweden’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities and security by providing timely and actionable information in all weather and lighting conditions.

As ICEYE emphasized, the new agreement consolidates its position as a key provider of critical satellite-based infrastructure for Information, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) across Scandinavia, the Arctic and NATO’s Northeast Wing.

The agreement also confirms ICEYE’s role in the transition of European and NATO defense towards the tactical use of Space: from isolated and vulnerable systems of the past to dominant, more resilient, high-revisit information systems that support decision-makers at tactical-level speed.

Defense investment

Under the agreement, Sweden is purchasing ICEYE SAR satellites, data and software, as well as the required ground and technical systems to establish a fully sovereign, space-based surveillance and intelligence capability.

The Swedish Armed Forces will own and operate the system, ensuring national control over tasking, data and operational use, in line with the country’s defense and security needs.

The investment is part of the historic rearmament of the Swedish Armed Forces and Sweden’s national defense and security strategy.

By strengthening sovereign space capabilities, Sweden aims to increase national readiness, support partners and allies, and contribute to a safer security environment in the Nordic region.
