The president of the German-Ηellenic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Agis Papadopoulos, spoke about positive prospects for new Greek-German collaborations and investments in fields such as the defense industry, mining and production of metallurgical raw materials, waste recycling and utilization, and green energy, with an emphasis on energy storage from RES, heat pumps, and energy management systems, from the podium of the New Year’s reception hosted by the Chamber in Thessaloniki tonight.

“Today, we are experiencing a period of uncertainty, the likes of which – if we believe the eminent historian Christopher Clark – we have not seen since the beginning of the 20th century. A crisis with geopolitical, energy, economic and of course military dimensions” and Germany, the largest economy in the European Union, is facing the greatest crisis of its post-war history. In this context, it is redefining its position in the European and global markets, restructuring its production, changing its energy mix, cutting spending, investing significantly in public infrastructure and defense.

Greece experienced its own adventure just a few years ago and managed, after a hard test, to become, by general admission, a model of recovery for Europe. In recognition of this, moreover, the Greek Minister of National Economy and Finance was recently elected as president of the Eurogroup. However, Greece and Germany – Germany and Greece have maintained their traditional ties of economic cooperation even in times of crisis. We are two countries that historically share common values, not only in the economic sector, but also in that of culture.”

On its part, the German-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and Industry declared its readiness and willingness to contribute to opening new paths in the long-standing cooperative relations between the two economies and to support any new investment initiative from Germany, as well as new outward-looking actions by Greek businesses operating in Germany. In this direction, it focuses on the techno-economic fields of tomorrow’s business activity as well as the strengthening of B to B partnerships.
