“Greece will actively participate in the negotiations between the IMO member states this year, with the aim of reaching an agreement that will serve the green transition without undermining the competitiveness of shipping,” Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Stefanos Gikas, said speaking at a shipping event, noting that the country’s election to Category A of the IMO Council with 153 votes confirms Greece’s international prestige.

The Deputy Minister also noted the growing interest of international partners in investments in Greek ports and shipyards, which, as he said, strengthen the maritime ecosystem.

He made special reference to digital innovation, as well as the creation of a state-of-the-art Operations Center for the Hellenic Coast Guard, with an integrated command and control system, for effective surveillance.
