Greek interest rates remained unstable in 2025

The course of Greek interest rates for 2025 can be characterized as unstable.

There are fluctuations, with the September-November quarter being characterized as the most unstable quarter for the majority of loans. It is indicative that while a gradual decline in interest rates was observed in the summer, September had shown some signs of an increase, which returned dynamically in November. In fact, the increase in interest rates in November led to a jump in the interest rate margin (spread) by 22 basis points.

Regarding consumer loans, the gradual decline in interest rates began in January and continued until June, while in August there was a small increase that stopped in September, with interest rates increasing again in the period October-November. As for housing loans, the significant gradual decline in interest rates began in February and continued until July.

Between August and September, interest rates returned to the high levels of June, while between October and November they steadily returned to lower levels. As for business loans, those without a specific duration saw a significant gradual decline in their interest rates until July and have since stabilized.

The weighted average interest rate on all new loans to households and businesses increased by 20 basis points in November 2025 compared to the previous month, reaching 4.65%. Specifically, regarding new loans, the average interest rate on consumer loans without a fixed term remained almost unchanged at 14.66%, while on those with a fixed term and a floating interest rate, it decreased by 16 basis points to 11.14%. On the other hand, the average interest rate on housing loans with a floating interest rate remained almost unchanged.
