The Athens International Airport (AIA) recorded a record passenger traffic in 2025.

On an annual basis, the traffic in “Eleftherios Venizelos” reached 34 million passengers, recording an increase of 6.7%. Passenger traffic, both domestic and international, showed an increase of 2.2% and 8.6%, respectively.

Number of flights

The number of flights at the Athens International Airport amounted to 283,589, recording an increase of 5.7% compared to the corresponding period in 2024. Both domestic and international flights increased by 1.3% and 8.7% compared to 2024.

Although the year did not start well due to the blackout in the Athens FIR last Sunday, it is characterized as one of high demands and challenges, but also of particular strategic – developmental interest for the aviation market and for the company of the Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”.

The focus of AIA’s strategy remains on mitigating seasonality, strengthening existing markets, attracting new overseas connections and promoting Athens as a sustainable, attractive destination throughout the year. Particular importance is also given to the steadily increasing flow of visitors from areas without direct connections, such as Australia, Japan, Korea and Latin America.

Investment plan

In parallel, the airport’s expansion investment plan is progressing normally, with the first projects – the new Multi-Storey Car Park and the Northwest Aircraft Park – progressing according to schedule, and expected to be completed in 2027.
