The Athens Stock Exchange is expected to remain at 16-year highs on Wednesday, with investors returning to… action after the Epiphany holiday.
Having already approached 2,150 points and measuring a cumulative change of +1.5% in the first days of 2026, the stock market is expected to begin today’s session.
The international environment continues to set the tone for investment choices. The events in Venezuela, for the time being, have had little effect on the market’s willingness to move into uncharted territory, resulting in stocks hitting successive records.
It is indicative that the pan-European Stoxx 600 is at a historic record of 605 points, the German DAX is flirting with the 25,000 point limit for the first time, while the British FTSE 100 exceeds the 10,000 point milestone.
All these developments do not leave Athens unaffected, which is running its own bull market. The General Index is above 2,150 points, something that has not happened since March 2010, that is, for about 16 years.
The Greek narrative, combined with the auspicious estimates for profitability and dividends, continue to pave the road for the domestic upward movement, although we must not forget the possible political risks in view of the parliamentary elections of ‘27.
Critical day for OPAP
Today’s focus is mainly on OPAP ahead of the crucial General Meeting to approve the deal with Allwyn.
Shareholders who disagree with the merger have the right to vote against the issue in question in the relevant vote and to secure the right to sell at the price of 19.04 euros.
The management of OPAP – Allwyn has stated that the deal will proceed under the condition that the percentage of dissenters does not exceed 5% of the total number of votes cast.
However, the main shareholder of the two companies, namely the billionaire Karel Komarek, has the right to revise the above condition, facilitating the sealing of the merger.
