Gen AI is the evolution of artificial intelligence that can bring a real revolution in productivity, through the diffusion of AI tools in an organization, emphasized George Georgopoulos, Executive General Manager, Chief Human Resources & Group Change Officer in Piraeus Bank.
Speaking at the MD Forum on the topic of “Work after AI”, Georgopoulos explained that artificial intelligence already existed within organizations and in specific functions, but now the advent of Gen AI has expanded the role of artificial intelligence from just an automation tool, to a means of empowering people.
The use of artificial intelligence has become easier and therefore more creative, while the diffusion of AI tools throughout the Organization will revolutionize productivity, helping everyone to be more productive, said the Chief Human Resources of Piraeus, emphasizing that the Bank is leveraging its collaboration with Microsoft in this direction.
In his speech, Georgopoulos stressed the importance of finding a balance in an organization so that Gen AI influences the culture in a way that will promote creativity, new ideas and critical thinking and will not end up adopting the simple reproduction of texts and information.
However, there are also some risks for leadership in the new work environment.
Specifically, Georgopoulos referred to the possibility that the “removal” of leadership from processes may ultimately not leave time for its essential dimension, which is the formation of directions and decision-making, but at the same time, it may keep it away from the actual operation and needs of the organization. Referring to the risks for leadership in the new work environment, he noted that, although the removal of leadership from processes may create more time for the formation of directions and decision-making, in practice it carries the risk of alienating it from the actual operation and essential needs of the organization.
“Upgraded leaders will be those who manage to maintain a balanced attitude between what we want the machine to do and what people do,” Georgopoulos said and estimated that “technology will not replace leaders, it will replace leaders who do not understand it and do not use it correctly.”
