Promoting Greece as a reliable investment destination and an emerging regional hub in the energy, technology and infrastructure sectors, the President of the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce (AmChamGR), Yiannis Sarakakis, highlighted the strategic agenda of the chamber during his visit to the United States.
At the 27th Annual Capital Link Invest in Greece Forum in New York, Sarakakis highlighted the new US administration’s renewed focus on strategic cooperation with Greece and the subsequent increase in investment interest in the logistics, energy and digital infrastructure sectors, the announcement added.
On the sidelines of the forum, discussions with senior US officials focused on facilitating greater participation by Greek companies in transatlantic infrastructure initiatives.
The trip concluded with a high-level roundtable, organized by the AmChamGR Office in Washington, D.C., attended by Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis and Greek-American business leaders, to identify specific avenues for accelerating US investment in Greece.
Proposal to Modernize the Greece-US Tax Treaty
Recognizing Greece’s strong economic performance and the importance of its expanding strategic partnership with the United States, the Deputy Prime Minister invited participants to consider the investment opportunities emerging in Greece. During the roundtable, it was examined how the Greek government could further facilitate the repatriation of its diaspora, more effectively articulate investment opportunities by sector, and promote necessary market reforms that would further strengthen Greece’s investment environment.
A specific proposal put forward for consideration by both governments was the modernization of the 1953 Greece-US Tax Treaty to more accurately reflect the dynamism and potential of bilateral strategic economic cooperation in the 21st century.
