A donation contract, amounting to 2,489,409 euros, for the supply and installation of the new geolocation system for all railway trains was signed by the Union of Greek Shipowners with the Greek State.
The geolocation system will also be accessible to citizens through the digital platform railway.gov.gr, creating new possibilities for transparency and information.
The system, in its basic version, has already been tested and is in normal operation since July, with successful installation and use on selected trains as part of a pilot application. By using high-precision receivers and real-time data transmission, the OSE Traffic Control Center can constantly monitor the position of each train, enhancing safety, traffic control and overall network reliability.
The donation from the Union of Greek Shipowners fully covers the cost of procurement and installation of the necessary equipment for all railway trains. This saves valuable time, as the time-consuming public tender process is avoided and the universal implementation of the system across the entire network is accelerated.
