Greece once again proved its international leadership in shipping with 17 persons in the 100 most influential personalities of 2025 in global shipping, according to Lloyd’s List.
In first place, Lloyd’s chose US President Donald Trump, who “influenced international shipping more than anyone else in 2025, through a storm of events that could have been written in a novel,” as it said.
1) Regarding Greek matters, for another year the largest Greek shipowner, Maria Angelicoussis, ranked first in Greece and eighth overall. The Angelicoussis Group completed the acquisition of a fleet of 18 shuttle tankers, for 1.8 billion dollars.
2) Vangelis Marinakis ranked tenth globally and second in Greece. The Capital group has invested significantly in LNG carriers and innovative ships, such as the largest liquefied CO2 carriers in the world, as well as in a significant number of containerships.
3) In third place for Greece and 13th overall is George Economou of TMS Group. As reported by Lloyd’s List, there is not much that he has not achieved in shipping during a 40-year career as a shipowner.
4) In fourth place and 14th overall is George Prokopiou, founder of Dynacom, Dynagas and Sea Traders. Prokopiou has one of the largest tanker order books, while he is among the main carriers of American LNG exports.
5) The new European Commission Commissioner for Transport, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, as well as Commission officials, Fotini Ioannidou and Magda Kopczynska, are in 24th place in the ranking and fifth among Greeks.
6) The president of the Union of Greek Shipowners, Melina Travlou, is sixth in terms of Greek presence and 26th on the list. Travlou, the first female president in the history of the Union of Greek Shipowners, was re-elected for a second term at the helm of the largest national shipowners’ association in the world.
7) Another Greek shipping woman, Angeliki Frangou, is seventh and 29th on the overall list. Lloyd’s referred to the two successful bonds issued in the Norwegian market.
8) In 36th place in the overall ranking and eighth in terms of Greek presence is Thomas Kazakos, Secretary General of the International Chamber of Shipping.
9) Kostis Konstantakopoulos (Costamare), who is in 40th place on the list and ninth Greek, is characterized as an active shipowner who has secured a wide presence in the industry.
10) Semiramis Paliou, who is in 52nd place on the list and 10th Greek, attracted great interest following the recent takeover proposal for Genco.
11) The founder and CEO of Tsakos Energy Navigation, Dr. Nikos Tsakos, is “running” a broad shipbuilding program for tankers. Tsakos is in 56th place on the overall list and 11th Greek.
12) In 60th place on the list and 12th Greek is Peter Livanos of GasLog and DryLog. The Greek shipowner remains strong in LNG carriers and is co-owner of the growing dry bulk company Global Chartering.
13) George Logothetis – Libra Group is in 67th place on the list and 13th Greek. He has moved from containerships to bulkers and tankers, but has diversified his portfolio through numerous technological partnerships with start-ups.
14) The head of Star Bulk, Petros Pappas, is in 80th place on the list and the 14th Greek and holds the helm of the largest dry bulk shipping company listed in the US.
15) The secretary general of the European Community Shipowners’ Association (ECSA), Sotiris Raptis, is in 88th place on the list and the 15th Greek. The European fleet is one of the largest in the world, representing 35% of the world fleet.
16) Elpi Petraki, president of WISTA International (Enea Management), is in 91st place on the list and the 16th Greek.
