“Strengthening Greece’s relationship with the United States is the strategy for a sustainable path for our country, both in terms of economy and security,” Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, said to “Naftemporiki”, assessing the results of his visit to Washington.

Theodorikakos had successive meetings with important officials who are expected to play a decisive role in strengthening development investment programs in our country. The CEO of the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), Ben Black, expressed the will of the American side to finance new development projects of strategic importance in our country, with an emphasis on the sectors of energy, industry and modern technologies. “In our meeting, the United States’ interest in the broader utilization of the Elefsis shipyards as a port and transit hub was confirmed,” Theodorikakos emphasized.
Strategic project
“We agreed that we will be in continuous cooperation to shape a series of strategic projects for both countries, which the Americans are determined to support and finance,” Theodorikakos noted.
The main objective of Takis Theodorikakos’ contacts in the United States was to leverage the strategic cooperation with the US for the productive reconstruction of the Greek economy and the formation of the country’s new productive model. “This fits perfectly with their own strategy on how they see Greece’s role and their relationship with the country,” the Development Minister told “Naftemporiki.”

Theodorikakos also had separate contacts with US officials.

The agenda of the meetings included new US investments in Greece, the upgrading of our country as a transit and energy hub in the wider region, the shipbuilding industry, as well as research and innovation issues.

“We want to have new investments from the United States, which means a contribution to GDP growth and jobs, and good jobs in particular. After all, this is what the country wants. Prosperity for the people. Jobs. That’s the whole story,” he added.

Shipbuilding in Greece

The focus of the discussions with the American officials was also the strengthening of the shipbuilding industry in Greece. “We agreed to increase synergies,” the Minister of Development said.

Modern technologies

In the discussions with the US officials, modern technologies were also on the agenda, Theodorikakos emphasized  to“N”. “We also have a memorandum of cooperation with Open AI, which is being implemented with Endeavor in Greece. We are also preparing new initiatives,” he noted, reserving pleasant surprises for the immediate future.

In simple words, the Minister of Development underlined that the way has been opened for good for a much broader cooperation between Greece and the United States.

Theodorikakos had meetings with Greek-origin members of Congress.

Today he will meet with Archbishop Elpidophoros of America.
