Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance member Stefanos Kasselakis announced his intention to run for party leader in a post on social media.

Kasselakis has lived and worked in the United States and more specifically in the shipping sector. He has also worked as a volunteer on the staff of then-Senator Joe Biden for the 2008 Presidential Election.

In his post, Kasselakis acknowledges that he lacks political party experience, but he has plenty of work and social experience, while stressing the need for making the Greek dream a reality.

He will be the fifth person to declare candidacy for party leadership after Alexis Tsipras stepped down, and will be joining Effie Achtsioglou, Euclid Tsakalotos, Nikos Pappas, and Stefanos Tzoumakas in the party race.

The elections for SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader are expected to take place in September.
