INTERCARGO, chaired by Ioannis Xylas, maintained a strong presence at this year’s Singapore Maritime Week, with its members and executives participating in a series of high-level discussions on the future of the dry bulk market.
The Chairman of the Technical Committee, Dimitris Monioudis, took part as a speaker in a panel discussion focused on the evolving dry bulk landscape. The discussions centered on shifts in long-haul commodity trade flows, the risks associated with a potential post-war restructuring of global trade, emerging cargo trends such as bauxite, as well as the pressures created by an aging fleet and increasingly stringent requirements regarding energy efficiency and emissions reduction.
The week’s discussions reaffirmed the need for realistic decarbonization pathways and closer cooperation across the entire dry bulk ecosystem.
