The latest business sector to express its opposition to more taxes on its products are brewers, who in a letter to the finance ministry warned that a hike in the special consumer tax for beer will drastically affect their turnover.
The brewers’ association in Greece also reminded that the special tax slapped on beer in the country has been increased by a whopping 130 percent since 2009. Any more taxes, the association pointed out, will be shifted to product prices, something that will negatively affect already shrinking consumption.
