Motor Oil Renewable Energy (MORE) has launched trial operations at its first project outside Greece, marking a milestone in the company’s international expansion in the renewable energy sector.

The Stalpu 2 project in Romania is the company’s first hybrid asset combining electricity generation and storage to enter operational testing, according to a statement.

The facility includes 63 megawatts (MW) of installed solar capacity and a 10 MW energy storage system with a capacity of 21 megawatt-hours (MWh). Annual output is estimated at around 76 gigawatt-hours (GWh), enough to supply roughly 32,000 households, while it is expected to prevent more than 26,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.

According to MORE, the start of trial operations marks the company’s active entry into Romania’s renewable energy market, expanding its geographic footprint and strengthening its regional role in Southeast Europe.

The project also represents a key development for MORE’s energy management and trading business, as the company already operates across nine power exchanges in Central and Southeast Europe.

The addition of generation assets in Romania enhances its ability to integrate renewable production and storage with electricity trading activities on a regional scale.

MORE said the development forms part of its broader strategy to expand beyond Greece and build a diversified portfolio of renewable and storage projects across the wider region.

Motor Oil Renewable Energy is a subsidiary of Motor Oil Hellas, active in cleaner forms of energy.
