The Greek flag has maintained its strong safety and quality credentials, securing positive recognition in both the Paris Memorandum of Understanding (Paris MoU) White List and the U.S. Coast Guard’s QUALSHIP 21 program.
The dual distinction underscores the high level of compliance of Greek-flagged vessels with international maritime safety and navigation standards. According to the 2025 inspection results approved at the 59th meeting of the Paris MoU Committee, Greece remained on the White List, ranking 25th among flag states with the strongest performance in port state control inspections.
During the 2023-2025 period, a total of 544 inspections were carried out on Greek-flagged vessels, resulting in 15 detentions.
The Greek flag also performed strongly in the annual assessment conducted by the United States Coast Guard. In 2025, 141 Port State Control inspections were conducted on Greek-flagged ships, with deficiencies identified in 12 cases, although no vessel was detained for safety-related reasons.
This performance was instrumental in securing Greece’s continued participation in the QUALSHIP 21 (Quality Shipping for the 21st Century) program for 2025-2026. Established by the U.S. Coast Guard in 2001, the initiative recognizes vessels and flag administrations that demonstrate outstanding standards in safety, regulatory compliance and maintenance.
Participation in QUALSHIP 21 is widely regarded as an international mark of quality, providing eligible vessels with significant operational benefits, including reduced frequency and scope of inspections at U.S. ports.
