A cooperation agreement for the joint development and integration of artificial intelligence-based autonomous navigation systems into unmanned platforms, leveraging Shield AI’s Hivemind autonomy software, has been signed between the U.S. defense technology company and Greece’s EFA GROUP on the sidelines of the Eurosatory 2026 international defense exhibition in Paris.

According to the two companies, the agreement aims to strengthen domestic research, development and manufacturing capabilities in defense technologies, while tailoring the systems to Greece’s operational requirements. EFA GROUP will be responsible for adapting and integrating the technologies into Greek platforms and systems, drawing on its expertise in areas including artificial intelligence, command-and-control systems, tactical data links, mission systems and unmanned platforms. The group will also provide lifecycle support for the systems.

Shield AI’s Regional Director for Eastern and Southeastern Europe, James Lythgoe, said Greece is a country of strategic importance for the company, both as a defense partner and as a nation with significant human capital and industrial capabilities in the defense sector. He noted that the partnership with EFA GROUP is intended to enhance operational autonomy capabilities through AI-driven technologies and support national and European security requirements.

On his part, EFA GROUP Chief Executive Dr. Grigoris Koutsogiannis said the agreement strengthens the group’s role in meeting Greece’s advanced defense technology needs. He added that combining Shield AI’s autonomy technology with EFA GROUP’s expertise creates the conditions for the development of next-generation defense solutions in Greece.

Nikos Kalogiannis, Chief Executive of EFA Ventures, a subsidiary of EFA GROUP, described the partnership as a step beyond technology transfer. He said the integration of the Hivemind system into national architectures could help establish autonomous operational capabilities for the Greek Armed Forces.
