“Shipping is deeply rooted in Greece’s history,” Melina Travlos, President of the Union of Greek Shipowners, stated when asked about the secret behind the success of Greek shipping.
Greek shipping—and, in particular, the factors underpinning its global success—was among the central topics of discussion throughout Poseidonia 2026, the world’s leading international maritime exhibition.
Speaking from Naftemporiki’s exhibition stand, Travlos highlighted Greece’s historic bond with the sea, noting that Greek shipping is deeply embedded in the nation’s heritage, a legacy that continues to drive the sector’s dynamism and international achievements.
“There is no secret to the success of Greek shipping,” she noted. “Shipping is our way of life and, above all, we are passionate about what we do. We love the sea, we love ships, we love shipping, and we dedicate ourselves to it.”
Travlos emphasized that this enduring maritime culture, combined with the commitment, expertise, and dedication of generations of Greek shipowners and seafarers, has enabled Greek shipping to maintain its leading position in the global maritime industry.
