Star Bulk Carriers presented its strategy for further development of its fleet, with an emphasis on larger dry bulk vessels, with the listed company’s CEO Petros Pappas pointing out that the company aims to strengthen its presence in Capesize.

In statements to the Japanese shipping media Kaiji Press, the head of Star Bulk said that after the acquisition of Eagle Bulk Shipping in 2024, the company significantly increased its exposure to Supramax and Ultramax.

Looking ahead, he estimated that demand will favor larger bulk carriers, which leads to the pursuit of expanding the Capesize and Newcastlemax fleet. Large ships offer better efficiency and lower carbon intensity, as they carry more cargo with less fuel consumption per tonne-mile.
