Significant investment interest in the development of Data Center infrastructure is being recorded in Greece, at a time when global demand for computing power is increasing due to Artificial Intelligence.

According to the PwC study on behalf of the Ministry of Digital Governance, on the location of data centers in Greece, the total expressed investment interest in the country is estimated to be between 1.4 and 2.2 GW, with the largest part concentrated in Attica, which absorbs approximately 65% of the planned investments.

Of this total, approximately 0.8 GW concerns already announced investment projects, while an additional 1.2 GW corresponds to 20 requests for connection to the electricity transmission system (IPTO) and approximately 0.2 GW to requests for connection to the distribution network (DEDDIE). In Attica, interest is estimated at between 800 and 1,260 MW, of which approximately 330 MW have already received connection terms.

Beyond Attica, investment interest is also recorded in other regions of the country, such as Boeotia (approximately 275 MW) and Western Macedonia (140–440 MW), while smaller installations or development projects appear in Thessaloniki, Corinth, Crete and Megalopolis.

The geographical dispersion is also linked to the availability of electrical power, as, although at the national level it is estimated that there is sufficiency, there is a mismatch between areas with high demand and areas with available electrical capacity.

Overall, the connection capacity for data centers in the transmission network is estimated to increase from approximately 1.9 GW in 2025 to 2.9 GW in 2034, creating room for new investments.

According to the PwC study, the development of new data centers with a total capacity of approximately 1 GW could mobilize investments of around 10 billion euros, create approximately 1,000 permanent highly skilled jobs and strengthen the ambition of transforming Greece into a regional digital infrastructure hub in Southeastern Europe.
